The most premature triplets to be born in Britain and survive are celebrating their 21st birthdays today.

Guy, Kathryn and Marcus Humphrey were born after 108 days and fought successfully to stay alive despite their tiny size.

Guy was the lightest at 580g (20oz), while his sister was 600g (21oz) and his brother 643g (23oz).

Mother Anne said: ‘I had an easy pregnancy to begin with but became unwell and was brought in for a month’s bed rest.

‘It sounds awful now but they took me in to sacrifice Guy because they thought he would be born dead.

‘I remember suddenly hearing him and saying, “He’s alive, he’s alive”.

‘They were going to stop the other two from coming but they couldn’t, and two hours later, I had all three with me.’

Mrs Humphrey was allowed to take the non-identical triplets home from Saint Mary’s hospital in Manchester after five…
